Overview

Sabina Malkani’s third graders analyzed their school’s recycling habits and found that some people were having trouble sorting their recycling, causing recyclables to end up in the landfill. So they created a plan and applied for an $824 Eco-Audit Grant to help increase paper recycling at their school by 25% over a 12-month period. With the grant, they bought more recycling bins for their school, created a how-to recycle video and educational posters, delivered presentations to other classes about how to sort their recycling, and encouraged reusing scrap paper. Their continued efforts will divert an estimated 2,400 pounds of paper from the landfill to the recycling facility each year!
